Race discrimination lawsuit filed against Chipotle

Chipotle is facing yet another lawsuit in another state. A former worker at the eatery filed a race discrimination lawsuit on a recent Tuesday after claiming that the restaurant fired her for complaining about the preferential treatment that other employees were reportedly receiving. Anyone in Texas and other states who has experienced this type of discrimination in the workplace is entitled to file a lawsuit against his or her employer.

According to the lawsuit filed by the former Chipotle employee, the woman started working there in 2012 and received multiple promotions. However, after she came back from maternity leave last December, the woman, who is Black, was constantly assigned to the night shift. The same reportedly occurred with other Black employees. Meanwhile, day shifts, which were more desirable, were given to Latino workers.

When the plaintiff approached her manager about this, she was allegedly told that Black females always had attitudes. She was later terminated in January after bringing the matter to the district manager. She is pursuing an unspecified amount in punitive and compensatory damages. Punitive damages in particular may be awarded in cases of egregious fault.

When people in Texas are mistreated at work on the basis of race, it is within the rights to file race discrimination suits against their companies. An understanding of what facts have to be proved will likely be important to succeed in this type of civil case. A case that is fought victoriously may result in remedies such as a worker's being reinstated to a job and financial relief.
