Former Texas Chief Accuses City of Employer Retaliation

Employer retaliation can cause great damage to a worker in their professional and private life. A victim may miss advancement opportunities or be denied their rightful wages when employer retaliation is exercised against them. A former Texas police chief recently pressed charges against his employer for failure to provide proper compensation and potential retaliation in connection with the problem.

The police chief had been involved in an internal investigation against one of his lieutenants for purported sexual harassment. The former chief claims that retaliation against him began when he uncovered illegal activity and the potential destruction or loss of evidence used in the investigation. He accused city officials of their involvement in the investigation and intentional acts of indignation against him, including denial of rightful pay.

The police chief resigned with the official intent to remain until his position was filled and the department faithfully transferred. This process would take a certain amount of time to come to fruition, but he was told by the city that his exit would be started immediately after he made an official request for his missing wages. This purportedly made the man fearful of his position and ability to regain his withheld benefits and pay.

The man filed the suit against his employer and the temporary city manager, seeking to complete his term as the chief of police until his departure and retain the benefits and pay he says is rightfully due. A Texas worker that experiences employer retaliation may suffer financial loss and professional damage. Based upon appropriate evidence of wrongdoing, an individual may pursue legal action against an employer to seek an award for compensation due and for related relief, including the right to maintain their position.
