Sexual harassment in the workplace can be an uncomfortable situation to confront witnesses and for a victim. An employee could have fears that they may lose their job or endanger themselves if the perpetrator discovers their disclosure. Sexual harassment at work is illegal in Texas and regulations to exist to protect those who fall victim to it.
A Texas woman recently accused a colleague of sexual harassment and made the decision to pursue legal action after being let go from her position. The victim claims that her employer intentionally terminated her following her reports of harassment in the workplace. A victim of discrimination or harassment should not be penalized for the abusive decisions made by another party and could choose to fully investigate their rights under the law.
The female employee held a position as a receptionist for her former company, though reports did not detail the position of her purported harasser. The woman claims to have declined multiple inappropriate sexual solicitations from a coworker and notified her superiors of the inappropriate and illegal situation. She says that she was fired following her report.
The lawsuit names her employer and an additional party she believes is responsible for the alleged gender discrimination she experienced. The victim has requested restitution to include the harassment, loss of wages, and the ability to regain her position or be compensated. A Texas employee who has been made a victim of sexual harassment in the workplace may choose to seek civil action against the responsible party and collect compensation for damages.
