In a particularly egregious example of workplace harassment, a woman in Galveston, Texas was forced to quit her job after two employees repeatedly harassed her, even after the company went to great lengths to keep the two employees away from the woman. The victimized woman is now seeking a substantial award from her lawsuit that accuses the two employees of "intentional, extreme, and outrageous conduct." She is not suing the company she used to work for -- simply the two negligent defendants.
There were no details about how the employees harassed the woman, but that is neither here nor there. She complained to her employers about the situation and the company decided to change the locks on their office doors to keep the two employees away from her. The woman and the two employees worked for the AIDS Coalition of Coastal Texas and the AIDS Foundation, respectively -- so while their employers were linked, it does not appear they shared a workplace.
Still, the two employees repeatedly harassed the woman, somehow obtaining keys specifically to antagonize the woman. Apparently, after the woman complained, they tried to get her fired -- but when that did not work, they simply returned to their harassing ways. Eventually, they won (so to speak). The woman quit, and now, here we are.
It is a particularly disturbing story, simply because no one would like to think that two professionals would think that this kind of behavior would be acceptable under any circumstances, let alone in the workplace.
