Race discrimination lawsuit filed against school district

A previous principal at an elementary school has filed a legal suit against her former school district, alleging that she suffered from workplace discrimination due to being black. The race discrimination lawsuit was filed on a recent Thursday. If employees in Texas are discriminated against in the workplace on the basis of their race, they have the right to take legal action.

According to the lawsuit, the district's director of schools treated the plaintiff differently than she did faculty who were not black. For instance, the director allegedly managed the plaintiff's work and deflated the evaluations she received on her performance. The director also reportedly told teachers to tell her about the former principal's work.

The plaintiff also claims that she was unjustifiably demoted from her principal position to that of a classroom teacher. The director is accused of encouraging the school district to terminate the woman's employment in Aug.  2016. The director allegedly lied to the district by reporting that the woman had abandoned her role that year when she had, in fact, been on medical leave.

The plaintiff alleges that the race discrimination she endured caused her to lose wages along with her job and employment benefits. She also reportedly suffered emotional distress and accrued medical and hospital expenses as a result of the ordeal. She is seeking a minimum of $25,100 along with fees and costs. An understanding of what facts have to be proved in a workplace discrimination case in Texas and elsewhere is likely critical to prevail in such a case. An employment law attorney can provide that information and offer ongoing guidance and support in seeking justice for wrongful acts.
