Sexual harassment claim against Fox star Bill O'Reilly settled

An accusation of harassment on the basis of sex was recently settled in another state. The complaint was made against Fox News's Bill O' Reilly, a star in the network's prime-time lineup. If a person in the state of Texas or elsewhere experiences sexual harassment at work, he or she has the right to seek to hold his or her company accountable.

The sexual harassment claim was brought by a woman who served as a broadcaster for the company after joining the company in the latter part of the 1990s. She agreed to avoid suing Fox and ended up receiving a six-figure dollar amount after her attorney served a formal notice of the woman's intention to sue O'Reilly and the media giant. The woman brought the complaint after O'Reilly allegedly tried to have sex with her back in 2011.

The woman asserted that she rebuffed O'Reilly's unwanted advances. At that point, the network star allegedly attempted to derail the woman's career. The woman further accused an executive at Fox of retaliating against the woman following her rebuff of O'Reilly's alleged advances.

In Texas and other jurisdictions, sexual harassment in the workplace is contrary to state and federal laws. A harassment victim has the right to explore all of applicable legal options in such a situation, including potentially filing lawsuits against an employer that allowed the harassment to take place. Remedies in a claim that is fought successfully may include reinstatement to a prior job or an award of financial damages, depending on the circumstances surrounding the case.
