Gender discrimination suit filed against General Motors

A woman in another state recently claimed she was discriminated against on the basis of her gender. She has therefore filed a lawsuit against her employer, General Motors. When an employee of a company in Texas or elsewhere is not treated fairly due to his or her gender, it is within this person's rights to file a gender discrimination lawsuit against the company.

In the recent out-of-state case, the woman started working for General Motors in 2005 and shortly thereafter began to experience discrimination. According to her lawsuit, she received less pay than her male co-workers did, even the ones who lacked college degrees. The woman possesses both a bachelor's and a master's degree in the area of fine arts. The woman also alleged that she underwent sexual harassment.

When the woman sought help from the company's human resource department as well as two managers at the company, she reportedly received no help. She also asserted that she did not receive promotions simply due to her gender. Before filing the lawsuit, the woman filed a retaliation and sex discrimination complaint with the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She is currently still with the company.

When an individual is treated in a biased manner in the workplace on the basis of his or her gender, this person may opt to file a gender discrimination claim in an effort to hold his or her employer accountable. An understanding of what facts have to be proved is likely necessary for a person to prevail in this type of case. Remedies in a case that is fought successfully in Texas and other states may include an adjustment of pay as well as a promotion, depending on the circumstances revolving around the case.
