Workplace religious discrimination lawsuit filed against Macy's

When people in Texas are discriminated against based on their religious convictions, they can miss advancement opportunities in the workplace, in addition to feeling humiliated and angry. One man in another state recently claimed he experienced religious discrimination on the job. He has since filed a lawsuit against his former employer, Macy's.

The man was a door guard for the company in 1990, after which he was promoted to the role of store detective. However, after being on the job for 26 years, he was reportedly terminated over a situation involving a man who identified as a woman who was using the women's restroom. The terminated employee claimed that he was fired due to his religious beliefs.

Macy's had reportedly told the employee that the store allowed men who identified as women to use the ladies' restroom. The plaintiff recently asserted that even though he had told the store that this was not in line with his religion, he had never told Macy's that he was unwilling to enforce the policy. The man who was fired is a practicing Catholic.

Religious discrimination violates the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Any person in the state of Texas who feels he or she has been mistreated or unjustly fired because of his or her religious beliefs has the right to explore all of his or her legal options, including filing a lawsuit against the alleged perpetrator. If the suit is fought successfully, remedies from the suit might include compensation for emotional harm and lost wages, for example.
