Frisco worker claims he is the victim of workplace discrimination

When it comes to how Texas businesses handle their employees, the philosophy should never be out with the old and in the with new. Older workers bring valuable experience to their companies and should not be undervalued because of their age. Companies that engage in workplace discrimination as a means to root out their older workers can expect to face repercussions if such discrimination is proven in court.

A former Frisco city employee claims that the company fired him because of his age. The man worked in the Engineering Services Department for 12 years before he was terminated. The 45-year-old worked as a crew leader for the city.

The plaintiff was allegedly fired because he was bullying other employees. The man denies that he engaged in that activity. According to his complaint, his co-workers were constantly arguing with one another, but it had nothing to do with him. He also claims that one of the employees stabbed another co-worker with an X-acto knife, but that worker never lost his job.

The Texas man believes that the city fired him because he was over 40, which is a violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act. He filed a complaint against the city in a federal court, alleging workplace discrimination. The plaintiff is seeking to be awarded legal fees, monetary damages, front and back pay as well as to have a trial by jury. Similarly situated workers are within their legal rights to pursue claims if they believe they are aggrieved, and they can consult with an employment law attorney for their best course of action.
