Man files race discrimination complaint against school district

Being subject to race-based discrimination can be humiliating and frustrating for any employee in Texas. One man in another state recently said he experienced this type of discrimination while working at a high school. The associate principal, who is black, has thus filed a race discrimination complaint against the school.

The principal said he was hired to work at the school back in 2014. However, the school allegedly set him up to fail. The man said he was told to spend time in the school kitchen away from the school staff during the day yet was not given any specific duties. The principal said he stayed at the school for a couple of months.

The man said he believed that the school district administrators viewed him as a threat, thinking he could steal their jobs in the district, which is predominately black. After reportedly being stripped of his responsibilities and being prevented from pursuing initiatives to tackle the district's racial issues, the man complained to a state human rights division. The school district said it planned to fight the claim.

The claim, which will be investigated by the human rights division, may lead to a lawsuit against the man's school district. Any individuals in Texas who believe they have been treated unfairly because of their race have the right to explore all of their legal options in an effort to right any alleged wrongs. A successfully fought race discrimination suit may lead to remedies such as monetary relief depending on the circumstances surrounding the case.
